Weeks Of Weightloss Challenge

Negative Notions

Fed Up & Obstacles

Don't think you're ready to lose weight? Feel like something is holding you back? Well, there might be something holding you back...yourself. When you're trying to lose weight you not only have to deal with eating less and exercising more. You may have to fight rules and habits you've been practicing for a long time.

For most people, losing weight isn' t just something they wake up one morning and decide to do. Usually, it's taken years for them to finally make the decision to start trying to lose weight, and STICK with the decision. If you ask some of them, they might say they finally got fed up with being overweight and reached the point where they wanted to lose weight, and nothing was going to stop them from reaching their goal. They've already been fed up for years, but now they're fed up and ready to make a change. That time, being fed up means being fed up TOTALLY, with the extra weight on their body.

Since losing weight may mean giving up eating habits that you've had for years, even since childhood, be prepared to work hard at changing the way you relate to food. If you're used to having a piece of pie when you're stressed or upset, that will definitely have to change. If you relate sadness with the warm cups of sweet hot chocolate your mother used to give you by the fireplace, you'll have to replace that with something else that fits into your meal plan, or a non-food way of coping with the sadness.

If you find yourself thinking up reasons not to lose the weight, try to work on not putting obstacles in your own way. Everyone has obstacles they have to get around, and having diabetes is a major obstacle, but having diabetes doesn't mean you can't lose weight. It might make things more difficult, but that can be dealt with. The thing is to get STARTED. Getting started may be as simple as eating one less piece of toast or walking up the stairs instead of taking the elevator.

So remember, if you're ready to lose weight and you're ready to get around the obstacles that may come your way, then go for it! You CAN lose weight in 1999 and in any other year you want to try!
